This year’s Season for Sharing donations will be matched 50 cents on the dollar up to $1 million, $200,000 more than originally promised, representatives from the annual holiday campaign of The Arizona Republic, and 12 News said Monday.

The campaign, which supports  local charities, made the announcement after receiving donations to increase the match amount to $500,000. In previous years, the Gannett Foundation gave $400,000 to match donations 50 cents on the dollar up to $800,000.

“This is the first year that we’ve been able to match that much,” said Kelly Balthazor, community-relations manager for Republic Media and the Season for Sharing campaign manager.

Matching donations came from the following organizations, Balthazor said: The Gannett Foundation, $300,000; BillingTree Inc., $80,000; Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, $50,000; and 12 News, $40,000. Republic Media contributed the final $30,000 to push the amount to a half-million.
